Precision Sheet Metal Operator – Level I (PSMO) Certification Exam

Precision sheet metal fabrication processes include shearing, sawing, press brake, turret punch press, laser cutting, and mechanical finishing.

Eligibility Requirements
- one (1) to two (2) years experience as a machine operator; or
- one (1) to two (2) years of technical training from an accredited program; or
- successful completion of a one (1) year formally-recognized apprenticeship program in precision sheet metal
- completed exam application with supervisor’s signature (or letter of reference)

The certification exam is 100 multiple-choice questions with a two-hour time limit. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the exam.
The exam is web-based and is available at proctored testing locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. You choose a date and location that is convenient for you.

If you would like to assess your knowledge and get a feel for the real exam before registering, the Practice Quiz gives you an opportunity to become familiar with the format of the questions and provides indication of your preparedness to take the exam.
The length of the quiz is 20 questions and there is no time limit. The practice quiz is available online anytime, anywhere. You can even save a quiz and return later to finish. A quiz score of 70% is recommended before taking the PSMO exam. The cost of the quiz is $25.

Fees
The cost of the exam is $245 for FMA/TPA members, $345 for non-members (includes one-year FMA membership valued at $150). Full-time high school students and students carrying at least 12 credits at a college/technical school, qualify for the student rate of $95 (must provide copies of student ID and class schedule with exam application). PSMO Certification is valid for three (3) years.

FMA's Roll Form Operator Skilled Trade Certificate Program
Establish your credentials in the area of roll forming with FMA's new skilled trade program! With a Skilled Roll Form Operator Skilled Trade Certificate, you confirm to an employer the valuable technical skills you bring to your position. Your investment of time and effort in completing some basic program requirements can pay off many times over in enhanced standing and earning power on the job.
In response to the industry's need for a recognized standard, FMA's Roll Forming Technology Council has developed a program that evaluates your skills and supplements them with strategic training. Past experience and formal schooling, which you will be asked to verify with documentation, count toward the certificate.
Once FMA receives your completed application and supporting papers, it reviews your application for the classroom portion of the program. The course includes hands-on exercises and a test to gauge your comprehension of the curriculum. Classroom sessions will be offered twice a year. The Roll Form Operator Skilled Trade Certificate is offered upon successful completion of the class work and exam.
